Bourne news quiet as attention turns to July events

The intersection of Barlows Landing Road and Shore Road has switched to a permanent four-way stop, capping off a stretch of summer town business that also included the reopening of Patuisset Beach and the wind-down of emergency cooling centers after a heat advisory.

The Barlows Landing Road and Shore Road intersection officially became a four-way stop effective Monday, June 29, according to the town's News Flash. The change is intended to improve safety at the busy Pocasset-area crossing, and drivers accustomed to the old traffic pattern should expect the adjustment during summer travel.

Separately, the town confirmed Patuisset Beach has reopened for swimming, according to the News Flash, after apparent water-quality or safety concerns had closed it. The town also wound down its heat-advisory cooling centers, which had been operating at the Bourne Police Department, 35 Armory Road, from June 30 through July 3, running 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the earlier days and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Fourth of July.

SCHOOLS

Bourne Public Schools is opening preschool enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year, according to a district announcement posted to the school website. The School Committee's next scheduled meeting is set for August 5 at Bourne High School.

The Board of Health holds a hybrid meeting today, July 8. The Bourne Recreation Authority and the Shore & Harbor Committee both meet Thursday, July 9, the same day the Canal Region Farmers Market & Concerts by the Canal returns. The Select Board holds its Annual Retreat Friday, July 10. A Church Service & Walk for Hope is planned for Sunday, July 12. The Town of Bourne Recycling Committee meets Monday, July 13, followed by the Bourne Water District on Tuesday, July 14.
