BOURNE — The Bourne Select Board heard a Massachusetts Department of Transportation proposal for parking at Keith Field during the Sagamore Bridge replacement project. Louisa Paiewonsky, Executive Director of MassDOT Megaproject Delivery, and David Anderson presented a plan to replace 30 unauthorized parking spaces with a 35-space lot across Sandwich Road, served by rapid flashing beacon pedestrian crosswalks. Police Chief Brandon Esip questioned whether the flashing beacon is sufficient for the three-lane road, requesting a pedestrian-activated red signal instead.
Bill Macuch of the Recreation Committee opposed the crosswalk, citing safety concerns for children. Christopher Farrell, a Planning Board member, questioned crosswalk safety at a high-traffic gas station entrance. MassDOT committed to returning with additional options the following week.
