Select Board Votes to Appraise Battery Storage Land
Select Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Bourne Select Board moves to appraise 61.8 acres eyed for battery storage on Bournedale Road. Town Counsel Brian Bertram told the board the land's owners filed a notice of intent to convert the parcel out of Chapter 61A agricultural status to lease it for battery energy storage, reviving the town's right of first refusal after an earlier, smaller notice on the same property. The landowner's attorney estimated a rollback tax near $70,000 and roughly $15,000 a year in new property taxes, with a developer potentially offering "millions of dollars per year" in lieu of taxes.
Clerk Mary Jane Mastrangelo said the project "backs right up to a very residential area." The board voted unanimously to notify the Conservation Commission and Open Space Committee and proceed with an appraisal. Separately, the board unanimously authorized transferring the old police station to the Affordable Housing Trust and jointly appointed Amanda Paul to the School Committee.
