Bourne Sewer Commissioners granted a $5,070 abatement on a 2024 overage bill for a Buttermilk Way property after evidence showed a broken irrigation system discharged into the bay rather than the sewer. The board voted 4-1 to overturn a June 2025 denial, with DPW Director Matt Sawicki confirming the estimated water loss at 238,000 to 269,000 gallons. The board also unanimously approved a $732,000 FY27 capital request for a supervisory control system linking pump stations, and a new $30,550 annual budget line for system inspections.
Both initiatives address aging infrastructure and previous engineering recommendations for capacity improvements.
