BOURNE — The Bourne Zoning Board approved a fire station variance with a 4-1 vote, with board member Joseph Spinale casting the sole dissent. Vice-Chair Christopher Pine and Chairman James Beyer supported the application, while Spinale opposed it, arguing for a zoning-law change instead due to precedent concerns. The variance grants relief from a 30-foot setback and 40-foot height requirement for a Clay Pond Road location; response-time analysis showed 72 percent of emergency calls could be reached within four minutes and 94 percent within eight minutes.
The South Side Building Committee identified the site as the only available parcel meeting critical response-time and flood-zone requirements after seeking a location for approximately nine years.
