BOURNE --

HIGH SCHOOL -- The Bourne School Committee's Oct. 7 meeting featured a special presentation honoring the restoration of the "Home of the Canalmen" athletic mural in the Bourne High School gymnasium. The project was funded and carried out by Vinny Boccolini, a Bourne High alumnus, and his family's business, Cotty Johnson HVAC, which donated the labor and materials to replace a wall wrap that had fallen into disrepair. Athletic director Mrs. Alexander thanked the donors on behalf of student athletes, saying the volleyball team and physical education classes have already been "excited" to see the new mural ahead of the winter basketball season. She also noted that the school's Unified team picked up its first win of the season and was photographed in front of the new mural. Boccolini and two others, Angela and Adam, received Navigator Awards of Recognition from the district for the donation.

In the student advisory report to the committee, a Bourne High School student council representative said "many of the sports teams have been able to find good success in their season so far" and noted that boys and girls soccer has started welcoming seventh graders to practice at the junior varsity level, calling it "a great opportunity to get those younger students into the Bourne athletics" program.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- The Bourne Youth Soccer Association has announced its annual meeting for Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at UCT, with residents interested in attending asked to reach out to the organization by email.
