Bourne School Committee approved $805,000 in fiscal 2028 capital requests, including a new $450,000 ask to fix the wastewater treatment plant after a bid drew zero responses. Finance official Mr. Geist said the plant's bid failure was "only the third time" in his designer's 45-year career, and warned "I'm retiring in two years, and if I don't get this system buttoned up, I just, I can't leave." The package also funds a $70,000 Bourndale pre-K playground resurfacing, a $120,000 replacement minibus, a $60,000 central office design study and a $75,000 high school auditorium sound system, all passed unanimously.
Superintendent Dr. Joe presented MCAS data showing Bourne High School posted the highest grade 10 ELA achievement among ten comparable Cape districts this year, up from second place in 2025. Preschool grant coordinator Maura Dankert reported that 65 percent of surveyed families who did not enroll a preschool-age child cited cost as the main reason.
The committee tabled two Massachusetts Association of School Committees resolutions on vocational-school representation until its next meeting.
