Select Board · Meeting of May 7, 2026

Bourne Select Board pressed MassDOT officials on a disputed Keith Field crosswalk but made no decision. Louisa Paiewonsky, MassDOT's executive director of Megaproject Delivery, said the agency's proposed 35-space replacement lot and flashing-beacon crossing are tied to a $700 million state-funded Sagamore Bridge project nearing the end of environmental review. Police Chief Brandon Esip said "I don't think the yellow flashing lights are sufficient," pushing for a pedestrian-activated red signal instead.

Bill Macuch of the Recreation Committee said MassDOT is "throwing a penny at safety for the kids" and urged an overpass instead. Lead HNTB program manager David Anderson said the proposed lot's entrance does not meet federal traffic signal warrants due to low volume. MassDOT gave the board about a month to decide, with Town Administrator Marlene McCollem floating a plan to seek local jurisdiction over the Sandwich Road segment.
