Bourne's Zoning Board of Appeals approved an accessory dwelling unit allowance and continued a fire station variance hearing. The board voted unanimously to grant a supportive finding for Zachary Hindman's application to convert a 1,064-square-foot detached garage into an ADU exceeding the standard 50 percent floor area cap at 21 Florence Street. The same board also voted unanimously to continue the hearing for a South Side Fire Station variance at 171 Clay Pond Road to February 18, 2026; Chairman James Beyer and other members expressed concern that the application sought relief based on building design rather than unusual site hardship, cautioning against establishing precedent for using variance authority to advance public-good projects.
